Unupgraded it is capable of producing upwards of 100 kW if set up correctly and may even produce more power with further upgrades and tinkering. Gas turbines require a lot of pressure to in order to run effectively. This can be accomplished by setting up a burn mix which will create a large amount of pressure when ignited. You will, however, need to pump the breathable air out of the incinerator that is there to begin with as it will otherwise dampen the reaction and make the resulting bomb less effective.

  5. In the air alarm, set that air scrubber to filter everything except oxygen, plasma and tritium. Set its range to Expanded.
  6. Turn on the manual valve leading to space.

Final preparations

  1. Put on a hardsuit and go to space.
  2. Max the air injector in space, and make sure it's on.
  3. Go back to the incinerator.
  4. Use the gas turbine control computer. Click "on" to make power generation possible.
  5. Make sure any blast doors are closed, or they might vent the burn mix.
  6. Max the Mix pump, and turn it on. The burn chamber should now start filling with plasma and oxygen.
  7. Click the ignition switch. The console should now show it generate power.
  8. Use the SMES SMES Turn on.gif. Max its target input. Output can either be maxed or set to slightly under input.

Power Output

Without upgrades, the turbine should soon spin up to the max of 125000 RPM and generate power over 100kW. To get more power, print a bluespace RPED BS RPED.gif and stock parts from the engineering protolathe and use it to upgrade both the turbine parts and the SMES. At tier 4, it should now be able to produce around 800 kW power, until the oxygen or plasma runs out.

To produce a better amount of power to the station, experiment with different gas ratios (60% oxygen, 40% plasma is recommended for a basic setup) and piping setups.

Legitimate uses

The incinerator has a few useful functions, primarily for the storage/destruction of dangerous objects and creatures. For instance, the nuclear authentication disk cannot be burned, so placing it inside of a lit incinerator is a good way of keeping it out of syndicate hands if it needs to be stored somewhere. The amount of time it takes to cool will give the crew ample opportunity to fight off any syndicate agents who are trying to get in. It is also one of the only places that changelings can safely be stored without risk of escape. Should the changeling get uppity, you can light it on fire and instantly kill it every time it tries to regenerate. This may be the only way of permanently disabling a changeling if the crematorium and gibber are both destroyed.

Use in fusion

The incinerator is the perfect environment for doing fusion - somewhat isolated from the rest of the station, have direct access to atmos reserve gases and a burn chamber with space venting capabilities in case you fuck up. The incinerator is the forge of many newborn stars and has everything an atmos tech is known for - gases, heat and lots and lots of radiation.

Use in bomb construction

The incinerator is a fantastic place to create bombs as all of the other components with the exception of tank transfer valves can be easily sourced. How you are going to get those tank transfer valves in the first place is a mystery, but a crafty atmos tech or engineer can get the AI to let them in without too much fuss.

The production of bombs inside the incinerator is a key part of any atmos tech's career. Be it simple oxygen and plasma bombs that reach the maxcap for nefarious traitor activities or bombs that make the nuclear weapons of old earth look like firecrackers in comparison, all the necessary tools are right here, even the tank transfer valves can be bypassed if you're particularly crafty - in fact it will be necessary if you're aiming for the server record. Tritium is key to producing the large bombs we all know and love and your practically unlimited amounts of oxygen will make it very, very easy to get things done. Hypernoblium, a key component for getting even larger bombs, is only achievable with fusion which is almost always done in the incinerator.

What is the gas turbine

The gas turbine is an alternative way to produce power on the station, and is typically exclusive to Atmospheric Technicians. Unupgraded it is capable of producing upwards of 100 kW if set up correctly and may even produce more power with further upgrades and tinkering. Gas turbines require a lot of pressure to in order to run effectively. This can be accomplished by setting up a burn mix which will create a large amount of pressure when ignited. The burn chamber used for the gas turbine is also commonly used for creating fusion or bombs.

How To Set Up the Turbine

Note: This guide is completely unoptimized and is only intended to produce a low amount of power.

To make the gas turbine generate power, you need to create a burn mix and ignite it.

Tools you might need

  • Rapid Pipe Dispenser or Pipe Dispenser
  • Wrench
  • Atmospheric Access
  • Basic Atmospheric Knowledge

Preparing the burn mix

You will need access to both atmospherics and the incinerator to follow this guide correctly.

What to do in atmospherics

  1. Go to atmospherics.
  2. Max the O2 to Pure gas pump and turn it on.
  3. Max the Plasma to Pure gas pump and turn it on.
  4. Max the Pure to Port pump and turn it on.

What to do in the incinerator room

  1. Go to the incinerator room.
  2. Use the Incinerator Access Console to cycle to interior airlock. This will let you reach the two gas pumps in there.
  3. Max the two gas pumps leading into and out of the turbine burn chamber (the place with an igniter). Make sure they are on.
  4. Turn on the manual vault leading to space.
