As a Botanist, you are in charge of growing the <s>good stuff</s> healthy food for the Crew and Chef. This advice is coming from a 1 month botanist, I know my shizzle.
Well, ahem, yes! You are a hippie. You can make some of the best healing foods in the game, and the most lethal too. Also, you can grow hallucinogens and toxins! Just make sure you know what plants you are growing, or you will wind up dead from eating a bad shroom, total bummer.

A good botanist knows his/her workplace, let's consult the map. <br>

Growing Room
This is where you will grow your produce!
Nutrimax vendor supplies:

*Plant Bags
Bare minimum requirement: Grow plants and harvest them, either for food or for request. Supply chef with infinite flour.
*Syringes
<br>
*Nutriment

*Left 4 Zed
For the full chart with plant types, what they look like, and what they do, please check out the Guide to hydroponics.
*Robust Harvest
Fertilizer types
*Pestspray
E-Z-Nutriment: Makes your plant mutate once between harvests, resulting in different stats or even species. Does not affect yield.

The Megaseed Servitor provides you with the seeds. More can be accessed by hacking.
Left-4-Zed: Makes your plant mutate twice between harvests. Downside: Plants take longer to germinate, and will only ever yield a single grown.
To get more seeds, place produce in the Seed extractor located above the Nutrimax.

Biogenerator
Robust Harvest: Prevents plant from mutating on harvest, makes plant yield ~30% more.
By placing crops inside this, you can turn them into biomass to produce more nutriment solution, gloves and

a lot more stuff.
Head to the vending machine, get some seeds. There may be hidden seeds in the machine, if you know how to PROPERLY HACK IT, then do so and collect the rewards.
The Chef
Take your yummy vegetables to the fridge on the left side where the chef will be, then have him cook them up! There are many different dishes the chef can make from different foods you grow. Only YOU can prevent all-burger diets!
Tools of the Trade
You get a few fun tools as a botanist that will make your life so easy when growing plants:
* Hatchet: It's a rather robust small cutting tool used to <s>murder people</s> make wood planks, pumpkin helmets and corn cob pipes.
* Cultivator: This one is meant to claw, or perhaps filter, out weeds from the hydroponic trays.
* Pestspray: To get rid of pests, adds a bit toxicity though.
* Plant-B-Gone spray bottle: Kill hydroponic plants, kill kudzu weeds, kill alien weeds too, can be filled with other chemicals. Does minor toxin damage, but absolutely devastates plantpeople.
* Plant analyzer: It tells you basically everything about your plant, including its killing / drugging / healing properties.
* Buckets: In case you want to water the plants the annoying way. These function as beakers, so you can mix chemicals inside them too.
* All-In-One-Grinder: So you can extract chemicals from your plants and juice them.
*Backpack irrigation system: Makes watering the plants much less annoying.
There is a crate in the back room. It contains:
* Another bucket.
* Wirecutters: To set up a more efficient irrigation system.
* Wrench: To rearrange the trays.
Things you should get from the outside:
* Dropper: So you can mutate plants more precisely. An empty condiment bottle works as a ghetto substitute.
So Harsh, Bro
People like to break into hydro and steal your spray bottles, because they can fill them with <del>lube</del> water. Keep all the bottles in a safe enough spot in hydro, or actually stay in the hydroponics bay. You can also hand them out like candy. It's not like you need all of them.
Chemicals
BEG the chemist to make you stuff, namely unstable mutagen and saltpetre. You will go through the former fast, so make sure they aren't stingy. You can also get unstable mutagen through your biogenerator, but the chemist can get you off to a good start.

The water tanks can be used to refill your BUCKET and S.U.N.S.H.I.NE Nozzle. You can change how much the water
Different chemicals do different things to your plants when injected. Experiment until you find a blend you like!
tanks dispense by changing the transfer amount (right click it!), same applies to the Bucket and S.U.N.S.H.I.NE Nozzle.

Tool Storage
Most of your crops can be blended down into chemicals themselves. Keep this in mind.
The lockers provide some smexy clothing and tools, the usual stuff. The crate is a more open locker, but with only tools.
On the table, there should be a S.U.N.S.H.I.NE, put it on your back, take off the nozzle (right click!) and use it on a water tank/sink. At
default, a S.U.N.S.H.I.NE dispenses 50 water each use, making it a faster way to feed your crops.

Fridge
An alternative to chemicals is a floral somatoray. You can get it from the scientists unless they and/or the shaft miners are being lazy fucks (which is always). It is a gun that shoots mutation rays that either increases yield or tries to change the plant's stats. (Guide to hydroponics).
Shove produce into here for the chef to use. Self explanatory.
Dirt
If you happen to come across a Shaft Miner that hasn't taken a hardsuit and gone off to explore space, then you're halfway there. Get some sand, use it to make sandstone, then take three sandstone to make dirt.
Another method is to grow grass in your existing hydroponics trays, then plant the grass tiles and dig them up with the spade found in the back room! This will dig up some sand.
Congratulations, you are no longer restricted to tiny water tubs for growing now! Be warned though, it is not the most efficient method of planting, as there are no lights to indicate needs for water, fertilizer, etc. Have fun surrounding the theatre with bananas and watching the clown collapse in sheer joy.
Tips
*You can fertilize your trays via applying harvested plants to a Hydroponics Tray with something already planted in it.
*The biogenerator can be used to fabricate gloves, belts, Botany chemicals, and even kitchen products such as meat and milk.
*Remember you can boost a plant back to health long past its normal lifespan by providing lots of nutriment or healing chemicals.
*Hatchets are extremely effective against space vines. Similarly, scythes will destroy them in a 3x3 radius.
*Goats will instantly consume any space vines they may walk into, or be pushed into.
*The plant products in the Garden and Chapel all have 50 potency, greater than any seeds found at the start of the round.
*The EZ-Nutrient, Left-4-Zed and Robust Harvest bottles all hold 50 units and can be set to have a transfer amount of 1, 2, 5 or more units; fill an empty bottle with unstable mutagen and you can use it for precise mutations.
*Apply Ambrosia Gaia to a hydroponics tray until it glows yellow to fully upgrade it. Now any plants grown on the tray will not require weeding, nutrients, water or pesticide.
*Be very careful while growing the following: Death Berry, Novaflower, Bluespace Banana, and Bluespace Tomato. Though not illegal, it can all easily end up making a fellow crew-member flat in space, suffocating on the floor, or burnt to a crisp.
*Not everything is allowed to grow. Due to their very dangerous properties, some plants are illegal to grow and you might be asked to scrap them. A few examples of these plants would be the following: Cherry Bomb, Combustible Lemon, Death Berry, Death Nettle, Killer Tomato, Kudzu. Remember, while it is true that botanists and medical staff are pardoned for drug possession enforced by space law, if you were to have the plants leave botany at anytime, you're liable for narcotics distribution charges until proven otherwise.
*Carrots heal eye damage because they contain oculine.
*Some plants can be worn on your head for a stylish look.
*Scythes are sharp enough to slice fellow co-workers' limbs off.
*Bees, while very useful, can be turned into a very dangerous bio-weapon with the right chemicals.
Traitoring - Little Shop of Horrors
As a traitor, if you are lucky and fast you have access to so many horrifying things: Death nettles that are as strong as e-swords and automatically disintegrate, plants that slip people for ages, multiple robust poisons, bluespace tomatoes for breakins and getaways, nitroglycerin ingredients, KUDZU, and so much more! Unless you set up a secret garden it will be extremely obvious which horrors you're growing, but luckily no one generally gives a shit about botany.

Mutagen Dispenser
If you have an easy objective, quickly rush out and get it out of the way, head back and get your plants growing. You have limited maintenance access through your back room. Your leather gloves give no prints onto a crime scene, so if you ditch your equipment (or hide it) you should be fine enough so no one knows it was you. You can also intoxicate some food with a syringe or dropper, even buddy up with a traitor chef - just hope whoever you want to die eats it.
Latest update to botany, now you dont need to pester the chemists!

What Do the Colours Mean Cap'n?
Lets cover the colours that are used to grow your produce
GREEN = Ready for Harvesting, use your plant bag on it.
RED = Ill, cannot be cured
FLASHING RED = Weeds or Pest. Use a Mini Hoe if weeds and pest spray if pests.
YELLOW = Low nutrient, replace nutriment solution.
BLUE = Low water, spray the plant with water.
Mutation Splutation
Before you ask, I dont know what the title is meant to be saying.
You have probably seen botanists growing amazing food that just doesnt appear in the seed vendor, thats because they are
MUTATED PLANTS.
"How do I mutate a plant?" I hear you ask. It's quite simple! Lets go step by step for this.
#Pester chemists for Unstable Mutagen, or you can just use the mutagen dispenser now.
#Get a syringe from the Nutrimax Vendor.
#Draw Mutagen and inject it into a baby plant. (MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ATLEAST 1 PACKET IN THE VENDOR)
#Hope that it doesn't kill the plant.
A mistake made commonly is injecting mutagen into a plant which cannot be mutated, so here's a quick list of valid mutations.
*Tomato > Blood Tomato OR Blue Tomato OR Killer Tomato
*Blue Tomato > Blue Space Tomato
*Ambrosia Vulgaris > Ambrosia Deus
*Lemon Tree > Cash Tree (LODS OF EMONE)
*Coffee Arabica > Coffee Robustia
*Berries > Death Berries OR Glow Berries
*Chilli > Ghost Chilli OR Ice Pepper
*Nettle > Death Nettle
*Eggplant > Eggy (produces eggs)
*Apple > Golden Apple
*Grapes > Green Grapes
*Soibeans > Koibeans
*Tobacco > Space Tobacco
*Tea Aspera > Tea Astra
*Fly Amanita > Destroying Angel (don't consume!)
*Plump Helmet > Walking Mushroom
(Up to date from February 16th 2014)
The Poddening
Replica Pods are a work of nature, these things clone humans with just a blood sample! But very rarely will you get to do this!
"How do I revive someone with a Replica Pod?" You say to your monitor.
It's time for a step by step guide! (Since i'm too lazy to produce a super detailed guide)
#Find a dead human.
#Get a blood sample with a syringe.
#Inject into a Replica Pod seed packet.
#Place the seed packet and care for it.
#When the green light comes on, click the pod to reveal your pod person!
The flaw with this is that 50% of the time, the human that comes out will be more plant than man and should be wary of forks.
Replica Pods should only be used when genetics is down and cannot be brought back up for a while.
Pimpin' Out Your Workplace.
Right now, your workplace is very barren, with awful metal flooring.
Luckily, at botany you can produce wood flooring! (tower cap mushrooms)
You can also prepare Astroturf by clicking on grass in your hand.
Grab a crowbar from the tool storage and get replacing that manky floor!
I decided to pimp out my weed factory
http://puu.sh/6YOEZ.png
Smokin and The Amazing Drying Rack.
With the newest update, botanists can dry out Ambrosia vulgaris/deus and Tobacco (both space and normal) to make a homemade cigarette/blunt.
Apart from the swagger that will irradiate from you, the Ambrosia Vulgaris and Deus will make you higher for longer than consuming the plant, but
alot of the healing properties are lost in the drying process (citation needed), expect people to come banging on your window for a sample of your delicious
weed ambrosia. Rolling paper can be found in any Cigarette machine.
The drying rack, while able to dry out smoking ingredients (mentioned above), can also dry out tea leaves for the chef to use.
THESE STATS, WHAT DO THEY DO?!
Using your plant analyser, you can see the stats of a plant, You can fuck around
with them by jabbing mutagen into them or changing the nutriment solution to Left 4 Zed.
There's a basic overview on them which is explained here.
*Plant Age = How long the plant has been alive.
*Plant Endurance = How much abuse the plant can take.
*Plant Lifespan = A rough estimate for how long the plant will live.
*Plant Yield = How many crops you get from a harvest.
*Plant Production = Rough estimate for how long it takes to harvest again.
*Plant Potency = The size and strength of a plant.
Let's go over potency, the size is self explanatory, but the strength requires
a small amount of explanation.
Drug plants with a higher potency will have a higher effect. (you can use this on weed to make
SUPER WEED)
Shrooms and Nettles potency determines how much damage it could do.
Chilli potency determine the heat/coldness of the plant.
Banana and Tomato potency increases slip time.
Everything else is additional nutriment.
The Rotten Fruit.
So, you was unlucky enough to be a traitor as botanist? Dont commit suicide yet!
Along with the PDA items, you have amazing plants that can kill, such as a Destroying Angel or a Death Nettle branch.
You can also brew up a poison by using a blender and injecting the toxic into a piece of food!
Your gloves do not leave a print, so its harder to pinpoint that you killed your target.
Need to steal something? You are pretty much screwed.
Hijack the shuttle? Grow kudzu everywhere to make people lost and make sure that the meddling goat is dead. Also hand out tainted fruit.
Your actions are not watched as much as the other jobs.
Conclusion
Botany is a very relaxing job and is newbie friendly. Give it a shot now and then and you'll be suprised at how fun it is.
Heck, maybe even start a ambrosia vulgaris empire where everyone must don a piece of ambrosia in their hair?
