So Nanotrasen sent you here, eh? Welcome! Space Station 13 is a <s>top</s> bottom of the line plasma research facility located somewhere in deep space. Since you're new to this station, you're probably wondering just what's in store for you. Well to put it simply, you're fucked.
Space Station 13
NanoTrasen and their branch in charge of keeping things on SS13 running smoothly, Central Command or CentCom for short, are rather lax in their policies regarding employment. This is a rather appalling fact given the story of what NanoTrasen has been through. Long story short, they pissed off a good portion of inhabited Space which now cries for their flesh. As such, you should already be able to tell that you're in for some fun.
Welcome to the station, employee - Nanotrasen expects your time aboard to be productive, and quite possibly short; employee mortality is nearly as high as profits this quarter, but don't let that discourage you - profits are on the rise!

Job Assignment
Space Station 13 is an experimental research facility located somewhere in deep space, tasked with unraveling the mysteries and profit margins of Nanotrasen's proprietary discovery: Plasma. Since you're new to this station, you'll probably never get your hands on this stuff, but the administration of Nanotrasen would like to take the time to remind you that your actions, words, and thoughts aboard the station are proprietary per your hiring contract - if anyone starts asking questions, remind them of this fact, and move on with your day.

This is the first thing anyone will go through, upon arrival on the station. The first wave of crew members are given the choice of occupation based on personal preference, as opposed to actual training. This generally leads to the frequent abuse of power from, for example, the culinary master, who requested to be the captain on this assignment just for shits'n'giggles. Anyone who wasn't on the first wave is even worse off. They are simply given a list of positions still available on the station and told to pick from that. Usually, the best you can hope for is an assistant's position, which is the worst you can get. So, no matter when you arrive, try to pick what you're best at, because otherwise you could easily wind up admiring the external hull of the station with no internals. Well, this is always a possibility regardless, however if you're actually doing your job properly, it's probably less likely.
Space Station 13 is under the watchful eye of the militant headquarters of Nanotrasen: Central Command (or CentComm for short). This is the organization responsible for staffing the company's space stations, including Space Station 13, and if any issue is taken with their various staff members, CentComm has an exceedingly helpful employee helpline.

What to expect working for NanoTrasen
With SS13 being such an important asset for Nanotrasen, many different disgruntled elements regularly seek to subvert the station and its function. As such, all crew should be prepared to handle any kind of situation.

Death. The first day on the job, working for NanoTrasen, has an approximate 90% mortality rate. It's not too big a deal though, because those crazy scientists on board have a rather convenient method of bringing almost anybody back from all but the messiest deaths. If you're an asshole (you are/will be) you'll most likely wake up in botany as a plant man and be laughed at. It's a finicky system though, prone to mental interface errors.
Job Assignment
All personnel arrive to the station with an assigned (or chosen) position. Those who start their shift aboard the station will have priority placement, whilst those boarding the station late via the Arrivals Shuttle will be either assigned or made to choose from the remaining openings. Overflow workers will be given the rank of Staff Assistant, colloquially referred to among the staff as "Greytiders" for their grey jumpsuits and their sheer volume. Every employee, from the lowliest Assistant all the way up to the Captain, is bound together in legal unity in their service to the station and Nanotrasen. Cooperation is not required, but it is encouraged, so long as it does not harm the profitability of the station.

Regarding the numerous other jobs more important than your own
Whilst Nanotrasen is the ultimate governing authority aboard Space Station 13, there is a large distance between Central Command and the station itself. As such, the typical operation of the station is overseen by the Heads of Staff, all serving below the Captain and his de facto lieutenant, the Head of Personnel. These individuals are of the highest importance, and unless your job designation is among them, all staff are expected to show them the same respect you would show an agent of Central Command. Their orders are to be followed, and their words respected.

What to expect working for NanoTrasen
Many dissenters will say that Nanotrasen works its employees too hard, but the corporation promises adequate living conditions for all its employees. Space Station 13 is not only a research station, but it is also a top of the line habitation center, equipped with a Bar, Theater, and Kitchen for employees to enjoy their downtime, a Hydroponics lab to supply fresh food, healthcare through the station's Medbay, and a competent and friendly force of Security officers to keep the peace, offered in exchange for your binding and unbreakable employment contract to the corporation.

<small>Disclaimer: Per signed employment contracts, Nanotrasen is not to be held responsible for any lack of departments, hull, crew, food, water, breathable atmosphere, or any kind of incident that may occur on any of its space stations that result in loss of limb, life, or liberty. Furthermore, it is not responsible for delivering on the stated promise of Space Station 13 being a "top of the line habitation center."</small>

Your role
Do the best you can to fulfill the parameters of your job, and advance the interests of Nanotrasen by helping to keep Space Station 13 functional and keep its secrets safe. Most any obstacle before you can be overcome by some invention of Nanotrasen, be it intercession from the station's fully functional Artificial Intelligence, a healing chemical put together by the Station's chemists, or the station's patented cloning lab, all these and more are able to bring you back to a state where you can continue serving the interests of Nanotrasen and your employment contract.

Have a safe day on the station, employee.

Death, however, doesn't tell you much, so you're probably wondering how you'll die. The answer is: Painfully. Painfully and often. The station is constantly under threat from malcontent crew members trying to steal the captain's pants before killing everyone, to syndicate employees who think your station is a lovely location for a nuclear explosion, to meteors jihading against this invader to their homeland. The point is, the station needs far more help than it gets. The station needs you to not fuck up all over the place. That's the point of this wiki.
