Hello and welcome, in this exciting tutorial, we will be discussing how to turn yourself into a slime by accident perform useful scientific research in order to progress the stations mandate in scientific study. Whilst Xenobiology might not be as flashy as the bomb manufacture of Toxins, as useful as generating mechanical slaves Cyborg assistants, or as handy as dematerializing objects around the station, at least there is no chance of you accidently flooding the lab with plasma and/or ending up stuck in a wall, so sit back, relax and keep your fire extinguisher ready!

Section 1: Know Your Lab

Map of Your Lab:

Xenobiology is divided into three areas.

  • The southernmost bottom area is the containment cells, designed to keep your experiments in a contained area. There are Six testing cells available and each room is sealed with double glass door airlocks and convenient viewing glass so you can watch as the slimes feast on the flesh of your enemies eat their food and split. There are several disposal units here. These are connected straight into the containment pens, making it easy for you to feed your specimens without putting yourself in harm’s way.
  • The middle area is your main workspace for SCIENCE. Here you will find three devices a Slime Processor, Monkey Recycling Machine and a Grinder. On the table at the start of the shift there will be sheets of Solid Plasma, two Monkey Cube Boxes, two fire extinguishers and a box of syringes. A Smart Fridge is located in this section of your lab to store slime core samples. It also contains two modified Slime Scanners. Put one of these on! Lastly, The disposal unit in this part of the lab is the only one that doesn’t feed into a cage and in fact leads directly into space. (In accordance with Nanotrasen’s hazardous waste removal policies)
  • Lastly, the Northern section of your lab contains a special containment cell for unique specimens. There is a pair of shield generators here for added protection on this cell should it be necessary to increase the level of containment. This Cell also has its own disposals “delivery” mechanism to feed its occupant

Section 2: Time for SCIENCE!

First begin by gathering up some needed supplies from the desk.

Before begining, The list of items you should have on you are:

  • Fire Extinguisher
  • Monkey Cube x 2 (collect these from the box of monkey cubes)
  • Syringe (collect one of these from the box of syringes)
  • Now proceed to your observation cells. At shift start, there should be two GREY slimes moping about in individual cells and they should each be getting a little hungry.
  • The school of Xenobiology is divided on how to proceed from here. Some prefer to kill and immediately extract the slime from one of the greys in order to create a backup of grey slime should a *disaster occur. However, I prefer to go for a more radical approach and begin feeding both GREY slimes, this is becuase I'm impatient SCIENCE waits for no man!
  • Normally I would teach you how to feed slimes at this stage, but because the Research Director said I should for health and safety reasons I have to inform you how to kill them first so you *are prepared in the event of a well timed syndicate parapen attack Workplace accident.

How to Kill a slime

  1. Place Extinguisher in hand
  2. Click extinguisher to remove safety.
  3. Enter slime containment area and drag the slime you wish to “process”
  4. Pull the slime into the airlock (to avoid collateral damage on your other slimes) Like so -> [IMG]
  5. Click in direction of slime with Extinguisher held hand active until slime dies.
  6. Walk around accidentally spraying things with your extinguisher Click the extinguisher to re-enable the safety.

Now that's out of the way, lets feed the poor starving fellows!

How to Feed a slime

  1. Take your Monkey Cube. (Found in the monkey cube box)
  2. First unwrap your monkey cube Attempt to add water to your monkey cube and fail, unwrap your monkey cube by clicking on it
  3. Add Water to the monkey cube using a handy nearby sink.

If it is the FIRST time you are feeding the slime:

  1. Take newly formed monkey and grab it, upgrading the grab so you have a firm hold
  2. Enter Slime cell
  3. "Give" the monkey to the slime by pushing it ahead of you, so that it remembers you as a friend.

If you have fed it a few times:

  1. Take newly formed monkey and shove him into the disposals chute.
  2. Activate chute
  3. Gaze sadly as monkey at back of cage is ignored by slime
  4. Enter cage, fire extinguisher ready, risking your life to drag monkey closer to slime.
  5. Slime has a delicious feast! Nom Nom

After a clown monkey or two, the slime should be full enough to split into four new baby slimes. Hungrier slimes may require more food, so just keep feeding!

Caution

Remember that movie gremlins, where they provide very careful rules about feeding your little pets? Well here is one of the MOST IMPORTANT rules with regards to feeding slimes. Never ever ever feed a slime two monkeys at once. Wait for it to finish feeing on the previous monkey first, otherwise the slime will become friends with the second monkey and will never eat it! Also, make sure to remove dead monkey bodies and place them in the Monkey Recycler. Your department isn't made of monkey money and it’ll put less pressure on you to recycle some grey slimes into monkeys. After chucking several bodies into the machine a new monkey cube can be made.

How to extract slime from slimes

  1. Drag limp and lifeless baby slime body to slime extractor.
  2. Grab using disarm intent and click the extractor
  3. Collect Slime core.
  4. Inject core with ONE unit of desired chemical using syringe (Do not use more, or you are wasting valuable resources!)
  5. ?????
  6. Profit

Breeding and you!

So now you know the basics, but why are you doing this? Well, as you breed your slimes, you will notice that sometimes when it splits there are different coloured slimes! Well, as it turns out if you carefully guide your breeds you can slowly breed certain colour slimes based off various slime sub species!

But what does all this mean

Well, simply put here is a quick summary of the more dangerous different abilities gained through xeno manipulation

Mutation toxin - Inject yourself to turn into a slime-person so that the slimes never attack you. (Note: Keep in mind though that you are no longer technically 'human' as far as the AI and Cyborgs are concerned.)

Frost oil - Used to freeze people to death solidify plasma.

Capsaicin – Works like pepper-spray if you can find a good way to apply it to your victim test subject.

Advanced mutation toxin - Turns Victim test subject into a baby slime. These slimes, interestingly, can still breed… SCIENCE!

Adamantine golem – Xeno Construct, will follow its creator's orders much like a cultist construct. Often used to KILL ALL NON-SLIMES protect the research department

Slime steroid - Will cause a slime to generate more extract. Useful when used on dark purple slimes for more plasma or grey slimes for more monkeys when your station supply team are being useless distracted.

Slime jelly - a highly toxic substance. Do not consume.

Docility potion - a chemical that will nullify a baby slime's powers, causing it to become docile and tame, a new pet for the station! Make many and distribute them to the crew. Often makes the HoP jealous. The version provided by Light pink slimes is stronger and works on Adult slimes.

Random hostile mobs – Any hostile mob in the game is randomly created, so you might be able to fill xenobiology with actual dangerous xenomorphs! This is most likely what you use the upper containment area for. Feel free to die horribly from experiment mercilessly on your new toys. (It is your job after all!)

Random mob - These mobs are neutral and wont attack immediately unless provoked.

Mass teleport - anything in the room not nailed down gets sent to a random beacon in the world. Also known as the horrible teleport grief “Emergency Safety Jump” technique to clear a room of danger. (often bringing the danger with)

Camera – SCIENCE has trouble explaining this… it functions exactly like a regular camera. You reckon it probably has to do with space magic magnetic bonds or something.

Extract enhancer - Triples the amount of uses an extract has. (Huzza!)

What now?

Keep breeding your slimes, your objective should be to isolate a sample from every breed. Check with other departments if they need anything from you (Remember, you can provide raw materials to Telescience, Robotics and Research!) Also, keep in mind that Monkey Boxes are expensive. As mentioned before, keep using grey slime cores to keep your supply of monkeys high. Only order new monkeys from supply in an emergency situation.

Slime Sentience

Apparently, not only we have studied them, but they have also studied us! Recent breakthroughs indicate that Slimes are now capable of showing various emotions, mimicking humans. There are reports of slimes showing signs of sentience. Further research is recommended. One of the reported signs is their speech capability. Following facts have been gathered: they talk more often to those who feed them; they react to being called by the number (see Slime Scanner above), but 'slimes' is also acceptable; they are able to understand being ordered to "follow" someone, or "stop". There is a report of a slime releasing an assistant after a scientist shouted at it, and then calmly ordered a slime to stop.

Syndicate Tips

So you're playing for the other team?

Xenobiology has several interesting options to help you achieve your sinister goals!

  • The department is fairly remote and contains a dump straight to space.
  • If you're subtle, you can unleash Xeno menaces upon the station by subtly injecting gold cores with plasma around the stations access tunnels. Use the generated choas to achieve your objectives!
  • Releasing a slime wave on the station can also be one, but generally only works if you manage to isolate some red slime cores and turn yourself into a slime person. (Beware the AI you non human!)
  • Creating a golem army can provide some scary muscle and minions. They will obey only their creator, make sure to instruct them to keep doing so.
  • You can create an instant monkey bomb by spraying a fire hydrant on several unwrapped monkey cubes. This is mostly more annoying then useful but also a nice distraction (Specially if you spread cries of "people turning into monkies!" over the radio)
  • Bluespace cores make a handy quick getaway in a pinch.
  • Remember, you're a scientist, you still have access to Telescience and Toxins. You can often justify using their labs as part of your research if the Research Director is distracted.
