=== Tesla Ball ===
=== Tesla Ball ===
The Tesla Ball consists of two parts, the central ball itself and a maximum of 10 orbiting Miniballs. With each Miniball added to the orbit, the power generated per shock increases linearly. The power generated by the Tesla ball itself is more than enough to power a standard sized station several times over. However, many engineers prefer to generate as much power as possible to combat [[Syndicate_Items#Power_Sink|Power Sinks]] and unprotected [[Assistant|retards]].
The Tesla Ball consists of two parts: the central, main ball itself and up to 10 miniballs orbiting around the main ball. The main ball will always periodically shock nearby targets. Miniballs can also shock nearby targets but only have a 20% chance to do so. The main ball can shock targets up to 7 tiles away and the miniballs will shock targets 2 to 7 tiles away randomly. What happens when a target is shocked depends entirely on what type of object it is. Effects range from tesla coils generating power to the walls, floors, and machines exploding. During normal operation the only things being shocked will be tesla coils and grounding rods. However, if the Tesla has breached containment then you can expect a lot of death and destruction to occur.

When choosing objects within to shock within its range the main ball/miniballs will use the following priority:

=== Tesla Coils ===
=== Tesla Coils ===
The Tesla Coils are the Tesla Engine's equivalent of the Radiation Collectors as the machines responsible for converting engine product into usable power. The Tesla coils are highly conductive and funnel the power of the Tesla into the wires and to the SMES cells. The amount of power generated by the Tesla bolts is dependent on the number of mini balls as well as the efficiency of the Tesla Coils which vary depending on the capacitor installed inside of them.
The tesla coils are the Tesla Engine's equivalent of the radiation collectors as the machines responsible for converting engine product into usable power. The tesla coils are highly conductive and funnel the power of the Tesla into the wires and charge the SMES cells. When a tesla coil is shocked it will go onto a short cooldown of 8 seconds during which time it cannot be shocked again. Tesla coils can be upgraded with better capacitors to increase the amount of power generated per shock and decrease the cooldown between shocks. Each level of capacitor will increase power generation by 100% and decrease shock cooldown by 2 seconds. This means that a tesla coil with a quadratic capacitor installed will generate 400% more power and be on cooldown for only 2 seconds.

Below is a table of how much power you can expect to be generated based on the upgrade level of the tesla coils and the number of miniballs. The base power generation of the main tesla ball is 1.74MW per shock. Each miniball will generate 0.86MW per shock, however since each miniball only has a 20% chance to actually shock a target the values will be an average.

'''Note: These values reflect the full power generated for each shock, however the power is released over time so measured values may not reflect the values on this table.'''

=== Grounding Rods ===
=== Grounding Rods ===
Grounding Rods are the key to keeping you, and the rest of the crew, from being a gibbed mess. It is imperative that you install the grounding rods correctly or else you get lynched by both the crew and centcomm for destroying their expensive space station. Four coils in each corner outside the containment field is enough to keep the Tesla Ball tamed, but be sure to keep them close to the Tesla Coils else the coils don't get their fair share of power.
Grounding Rods are the key to keeping you, and the rest of the crew, from turning to ash. They serve as a power sink when the tesla coils are on cooldown or not in range. When shocked they do not generate any power but they also don't go onto any cooldown. '''Grounding rods get a +3 bonus to shock range. This allows them to be further away than other items and still be effective.'''
