The extra thirty seconds you spend at the console may save the station depending on what doors it enables you to open. This is typically considered a non-issue by the Captain and other heads, provided you don't go and dick around in the armory or steal things from their offices without a word. Do, however, bear in mind that when you are inevitably beaten to death in a maintenance corridor by a greyshirt, your fancy silver ID is now quite the Security liability. Similarly, losing your ID for any reason becomes an upgrade from 'Decently Serious' to 'Demotion once the manhunt is over'
